This section details a kit that replaces the metal and rubber Idler Arm Bushing (located at the frame support bracket) with a ball-bearing setup.
This is usually done for two reasons: (1) To remove all up-and-down movement of the steering linkage at the idler arm, and
(2) Remove the resistance of the rubber in the standard bushing and reducing steering effort.
NOTE: The rubber bushing between the frame support bracket and the idler arm was designed by Ford to help center the steering and aid in having the car return to center after turning a corner. This was due to the torsional twisting of the rubber inside the bushing. Conversion of the rubber bushing to the ball-bearing setup will remove this inherent centering and the car will have to rely strictly on wheel alignment for centering out of a turn.
